With Memorial Day behind us it is officially summer. It’s time to whip out that shiny cold hard plastic and start planning your summer gateways. You’ll want to visit somewhere that is in close proximity to the beach. Not too far away and of course has great food. 😉 Portland, Maine has all the qualification to be the perfect summer gateway. Located a few hours outside of NYC and accessible by airport, Portland is great for a long weekend. It’s a coastal city and has plenty of nearby beaches. Plus if you are looking for the freshest seafood you’d be pressed to find anywhere better. Portland has a ton of things to do but our list is a tease of what you can expect.
Here’s Our Top Things To Do In Portland Guide
Stroll Casco Bay
Casco Bay is one of the most beautiful harbors on the East Coast. Whether by day or night don’t forget to take in the views while strolling along the bay. There are a ton of restaurants and bars located all along the wharf’s and it really gets bustling at night.
Meet the Famous Maine Lob-Stah
Maine is well known for it’s fresh seafood and their lobster in particular, so get ready for some tasty eats. No visit would be complete without trying some lobster whether it be whole or on a roll. Some Portland favorites are Eventide Oyster Co. and Portland Lobster Company.
Hop on a Boat
One of our favorite things to do in any coastal town is taking a boat to get views of the city from the water. There are some great sea tours out of Casco Bay or hop on one of the budget friendly ferries to view the gorgeous Portland skyline.
Visit the Portland Observatory
The Portland Observatory is a historic tower located in Munjoy Hill. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2006 the tower offers amazing views over Portland’s harbor. We suggest visiting around sunset for some truly epic views.
Get on a Beer Tour
Portland is considered one of the top beer cities thanks to it’s large number of local brewers. Boasting more than 17 microbreweries to visit without sampling some you’d be missing out. Maine Beer Tours and the Maine Brew Bus Tour are some great options.
