Tulum has been popular with travelers for a couple of years now. While not as popular as Playa del Carmen or Cancun, Tulum has just as much to offer if not more. Tulum is like the grown-up slightly boho beachy destination of your dreams. It has a ton of fun things to do both within the town limits or via a short car ride.
Below are my Top Things To Do In Tulum
One of the best things about traveling to Tulum is it’s proximity to the many amazing Cenotes. These “sinkholes” or cenotes are open caves you can swim and explore in. Below are the most popular ones. Cenotes are great budget friendly activities as visiting them usually only cost a few dollars. Keep in mind if you do not bring your own snorkeling gear you can rent.
Tip: I suggest purchasing a cheap snorkel and goggle set on Amazon. It will save you money and is more hygienic.
Mexico is famed for its’ pristine beaches and ancient Mayan ruins. In Tulum not only do you have easy access to the Tulum ruins, one of the most visited ruins, but you are also a car ride away from Coba and Chichen Itza. Read about my experience visiting the Coba Ruins here.
Tip: Renting a car is an affordable and easy way to take day trips to the ruins. The roads are well paved and very safe.
For those looking to raft, zip line and do other adventure activities they should head to Xel-Ha. Part, theme park, part eco-reserve this has something everyone will enjoy. Make sure to make the most of your ticket and get here early.
Scuba or Snorkel
When it comes to exploring underwater, Tulum offers a ton of options. From exploring in the cenotes to snorkeling with whale sharks to scuba diving, Tulum has something for everyone. Depending on your budget make sure to fit in one underwater adventure. For budget travelers cenotes are a great way to fit it in. For those with a bit more money why not do some scuba diving. If the season is just right you could even get to see some whale sharks.
After you’ve finished exploring don’t forget to unwind and relax. With its’ soft white sand beaches and it’s many spas, Tulum is the perfect spot to sit back and just be. We also suggest it’s many beach clubs where you can sip a margarita and eat tacos right on the beach.
