La Treille Muscate, the Best Lunch in Provence | France

La Treille Muscate, the Best Lunch in Provence | FranceIf you read Jay’s Ultimate Provence Lavender Field Guide, you’ll know we had the best time chasing down the blooms and took some amazing pictures. But before our little off-roading excursion, we found ourselves in the tiny mountain village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.

Tucked below rocky cliffs, this town is the epitome of Provincial France. There are so many adorable stores featuring lavender everything. It was a little touristy, it seems like a tour route stops here for lunch, but that didn’t change our experience at all.  We stopped at La Treille Muscate for lunch and it was out of this world.

We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the valley and had an incredible prix-fixe lunch. It started with a fennel and onion salad with honey and lavender, a freshly grilled octopus and lavender main dish, and ended the meal with chocolate, raspberry, and lavender (shocking, I know) mousse. We topped off the meal with a few glasses of rosé and I can honestly say this must be what heaven is like.

Although the town is filled with tour groups, there were many locals in the restaurant and the service was immaculate.

We definitely lingered a bit longer than most, not wanting to leave the gorgeous view and the warm summer air. If you’re traveling through Provence, or following our Lavender Field Guide, a stop in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie should definitely be on the itinerary.

If not for lunch, at least for the amazing views and to get a little taste of the French countryside.
