North Carolina U.S.A

Weekend in Asheville, North Carolina | USA

My best friend since kindergarten and I have lived in separate cities (and sometimes separate countries) our entire adult lives. It kind of sucks, but it’s also kind of amazing – because we both get to visit each other’s worlds and escape our own for a little while. When she told me she was moving to Asheville, North Carolina, I was super excited to come visit. It’s gained so much in popularity over the past couple of years and has really boomed as a top small city to visit in the US.

Below are my top three favorite things to do in the trendy city of Asheville, NC.

Beer Buster Podcast

1. Beer, beer, and more beer:

Thanks to one of our Uber drivers, I learned that Asheville has the most breweries per capita in the US. So, of course, this is exactly what I wanted to visit on my trip. We spent an entire day hopping around from brewery to brewery, visiting about three with more than 90 in the city to get to (spoiler alert: we didn’t). We visited Wicked Weed, Catawba, and Twin Leaf, which had the perfect outdoor patio to sip our yummy beers.

2. Hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains:

There are so so many hikes you can go on around Asheville. Whether you want to do a quick, simple hike or tackle a day-long hike, there’s a lot of everything in this area. It was super cloudy when I visited, so we stuck with an easy hike up to Craggy Pinnacle – which has beautiful views – and then we made our way to the Mount Pisgah Inn for even more beautiful views of the Blue Ridges.

Bon Appetite

3. FOOD:

My personal favorite part of any trip. The food in Asheville, like its beer, is known for being top notch. There are so many local, quirky places to try, but my favorites were Bar Taco for Mexican, Melt Your Heart – a grilled cheese food truck that we just so happen to run into at New Belgium, and Cúrate for tasty tapas (and shout out to the great service, because they fed two very hungry girls right as they were about to close). These were my favorite restaurants, but you seriously can’t go wrong in Asheville.

If you’re headed down south, a stop in Asheville is a must. Whether you’re into craft beer, outdoor activities, or food (because who isn’t into food?), you have got to check out Asheville.

I was bitten by the travel bug at an early age and ever since I’m always craving my next adventure.  From Europe to South Africa, I’ve been all over the world, but there are still so many places I have yet to explore. I hope you enjoy our little taste of wanderlust and are inspired along the way!

Such a beautiful place with abundant nature. The place is really similar to the city we call “Little Baguio.”
