Ultimate Mykonos Guide | Greece

Mykonos is known for two things; partying and relaxing. After traveling 14 plus hours from Croatia to Italy and then back to Greece, we came for the later. Yet like most Greek Islands, it is filled with character, charm, and delicious food.  Something we found other travelers failed to mention. Mykonos is so much more than a party or resort island. I fell in love instantly. I loved exploring the endless picturesque streets and trying new foods. Our Ultimate Mykonos Guide will ensure that you get the most out of your time at this stunning Island.

Below is our Ultimate Mykonos Guide

What to do

Hit up the nightlife.

Mykonos is a good time. I mean when you live on an island as beautiful as Mykonos it’s hard to find a reason why you wouldn’t celebrate. You can go full out and party at Super Paradise Beach, Scandinavian Bar or Tropicana Bar. Here you are sure to have a good time and an even better hangover.

Relax by the beach.

Mykonos has some of the calmest and warmest waters I have been in. My favorite beach is Platis Yalos as it is less crowded than a lot of the other beaches and the water is calm. Praga Beach is also calm and stunning.  Paradies beach is more of a party location so don’t go if you plan to lounge around and have a relaxing day.

Visit the Windmills

The windmills are one of the iconic landmarks for Mykonos. We suggest visiting during sunset to take full advantage of this landmark.  Don’t forget a camera and get ready to grab the ultimate insta pic.

Explore Mykonos Town

The cheapest and one of the best things to do is to explore Mykonos town. It has a ton of shopping and beautiful streets that make it the perfect backdrop for some great selfies. Don’t forget to let yourself get lost and enjoy all the hidden alleys and side street.

Want more Adventure?

Atving is one of the best ways to see Mykonos plus it’s fun. Or how about renting a boat and seeing Mykonos from the water. If you’re into scuba diving see the island from below and get ready to be amazed. Last but not least windsurf at Korfos Bay.

Where to stay

Villa Meliti, Platis Yalos

We stayed here and cannot rave enough about Villa Meliti. A family owned business we were in love with our villa and the service. Both Aggeliki and her son Mike were so accommodating and gave great suggestions on beaches, restaurants, and nightlife. Platis Yalos beach and the bus stop into town are both within walking distance.

Poseidon Hotel Suites, Mykonos City

Located in the town center this is a great spot if you want to remain in the thick of it. It’s got great views and is within walking distance of everything. We meet some travelers who were staying here and they raved about it. They have free wifi, free parking and free transforms from port or airport too.

Where to Eat

Avli tou Thodori, Platis Yalos

This restaurant has one of the best locations in Mykonos and is right by Plati Yalos beach. What really sets them apart is the service. After ordering way too much food they gifted us with some beautiful and yummy traditional Greek desserts and we were in heaven. The saganaki, cheese filled filo pastries and their Greek donuts with honey are not to be missed.

Bonatsa Restaurant Platis Yalos

We came here for lunch and loved it so much we came back for dinner that same day. The food here is just good and they have a lot of different dishes to offer. It’s an open kitchen concept and you have sweeping views of the ocean.

Blue Myth, Platis Gialos

This is another great choice for dining in Platis Gialos and has great views. The atmosphere is beautiful and the food is delicious.

Fato A Mano, Mykonos City

Okay as much as I love Greek food after a few days sometimes you want a break. Naturally Italian is the second best option in Greece. Fato a Mano makes great authentic Italian that is so delicious you’ll think you were in Italy.

Pepper, Mykonos City

“Fresh & Prime Ingredients, Neat Menu, Polite Service & Simply Smiling Faces” this is Pepper’s motto and it’s exactly what you get. It is just missing one thing, yummy eats.

Kazarma, Mykonos City

Offering up traditional Greek cuisine until the late hours of 2 am. This is the perfect place to eat especially if you need something super early or late at night.

What to Bring

Sunblock

Even for those of us who are blessed with olive skin apply and reapply sunblock. No one looks cute looking like a lobster.

Sunhat

If there ever was a time to purchase a sunhat its here. I bought my first one on the island and it helped immensely to keep me cool.

Flowy dresses and skirts

It is really hot as you expect in Greece come with only breeze loose fitting clothing. I kept in them with the island and wore blues, whites and hints of pink.

Camera

Everything is gorgeous here don’t forget to bring a camera to capture some highlights.

Bathing suits

Trust me you will not be able to resist the water.

I must confess I have never been in Greece, although was on my travel list several times. Now after reading your post, I am decided to change that and book a trip to one of its wonderful islands. The photo you took there are splendid and show an artistic inclination.
