When I think of Italy the first thing that pops into my mind is pizza. Now for total transparency, I should probably disclose that I have been on a no-carb hiatus for a couple of weeks now. This has caused me to have dreams upon dreams of pizza and feasting out at my favorite pizza joint, Gusta Pizza. Now there are several decent pizza spots in Florence but NOTHING compares to Gusta.
Gusta Pizza, the Best Pizza in Florence
I am ashamed to say that it took me almost two months to discover Gusta pizza. I overheard some girls in our study abroad classes whispering about going to go get the best pizza. My ears naturally perked up and I zoned in on their conversation. As soon as the words Gusta pizza came out of their mouths I was googling the address and Facebook messaging my roommates to meet me.
When we reached at the address we were a bit hesitant. The outside was plain. We thought we were lost and were about to turn around when two hot Italian men came out with two boxes of pizza.
We had arrived.
The minute you walk in you are welcomed by the aroma of dough and cheese. Aka Heaven. This is a family joint so one of the brothers will come and take your order. The menu is simple and written on the chalkboard, which features a handful of pizza’s to select from.
It is cash only 5 – 10 euros depending on your toppings.
Prepare to get cozy with locals, tourist and other study abroad students as the few tables they have are shared. Once my pizza arrived it took all of 5 minutes before I devoured the large personal pie. As soon as it was done I wanted more. We ate there a minimum of once a week for the remainder of our three months in Florence.
The pizza was always amazing as if we were having it for the first time each time.
Gusta’s pizza is a staple. I highly recommend ALL of the pies as I have eaten them all ten times over. It’s no surprise this place has been featured on tv and in magazines. It has even been featured on the food network. So if you’re ever in Florence make sure to take a visit to the Santo Spirito area for some epic pizza at Il Gusta Pizza.
